Getting ready for the Kent Show 2007

Sheep

This year our lambs were kindly loaned to us by Mary and Paul Anthony, a family breeding pure-bred Texels (white-faced lambs, used primarily for their good quality wool). We picked our lambs one week before the show, with Mary's kind help, and set about preparing them over the next four or five days.

Rosie, Carl, Nicola and Louise with the lambs - fresh from the field!

The lambs had never really had close contact with humans before, so we had to remedy this by spending plenty of time in a pen with them. After this, the lambs were introduced to the haulters they would be wearing at the showground. After a while of being tied up on these, the lambs were walked around with their exhibitor - a useful way of bonding the bemused lamb with their terrified human friend!

One small step for lamb...

Before the lambs could come to the showground, we decided to give them a good soaking. This not only leaves them clean, and helps us card them up (make them fluffy), but it helps them get used to being pampered - something that will happen for several days over the duration of the County Show!
